A cool, glassy mutation of that ’90s Britpop backbeat shimmers beneath the tapping feet of Timoti La Moto Casco. Just off-stage, behind their madcap curtain, TLMC’s blooping krautrock machinery churns onward. This trusty dynamo has carried the Guadalajara band away on a supporting tour with Geese, and into the pages of Rolling Stone. Timoti La Moto Casco’s new album TLMC still relies on this same fuzz factory grease smeared deep into its grooves—but the band’s sound has also grown, like a many-headed hydra with a crate digging habit. On tracks like “Desvanecer” & “Las Nubes Caen”, the band’s newfound agency is quickly realized, submerging the melodies into deeply nostalgic, moving worlds able to turn down the unnerving torrent we are pummeled with daily. Alfredo Zenteno and Diego Montiel’s songwriting partnership is at its most immediate and assured: twin heads tending to the same garden bed but dreaming under different-colored stars. TMLC effortlessly captures all the joy and terror of growing up, while showing us that the phantoms which haunt and the dreams which pull us forward are really just two sides of the same coin, or record.
