After a five-year hiatus that began in 2020 due to a pandemic and their original drummer leaving the band after 18 years, The Phantom Four returned to the stage in 2025 to play festivals throughout Europe and trying out fresh new material with a new drummer. To warm up for their return, the band hit their new rehearsal room / recording studio in the summer of 2025 to get ready for some upcoming shows. Impressed by the sound of the room, the band decided to record some setlist staples of their 20+ year live career with their regular sound engineer at the controls. During these "Spectral Sound Sessions", The Phantom Four recorded completely live in the studio for the first time and added the use of an analog Space Echo tape machine to create a "spectral sound" on some of the tracks. The result is a total of 10 tracks that honor the surf roots of the band, while also emphasizing the wide and global array of different music genres that keep influencing their unique sound.

The band has also appeared at renowned festivals around the world, such as Lowlands, Zwarte Cross, Vive Latino, Paaspop, Surfer Joe, Tiki Oasis, Sjock, Surf-o-Rama and Wild ‘o’ Fest. Extensively touring throughout Europe, the United States and Mexico, The Phantom Four has built a strong international reputation. The band's signature sound has evolved into an adventurous and danceable instrumental style, with bandleader Phantom Frank's compositions bringing together a wide range of musical traditions, from psychedelic cumbia, afrobeat and Middle Eastern folk music to classical, rock, electronic and new wave.
