Description

Spectrum, the 1968 debut album by legendary funky drummer Les DeMerle, is widely regarded as a rare groove classic and is also known as a notable sampling source in hip-hop, including by rapper O.C.

The album features an astonishing lineup of jazz greats. The horn section includes Frank Foster, Lew Tabackin, Ernie Lawrence, and Chris Woods on saxophones, along with Charles Sullivan and Marvin Stamm on trumpet. The stellar rhythm section includes guitarist Joe Beck and pianist Norman Simmons—some of the most respected musicians of the era.

From the explosive title track “Spectrum” to the deep jazz-funk groove of “Underground,” the funk reinterpretation of The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life,” and the breezy Brazilian-tinged “Aquarius,” the album proves that DeMerle was already an extraordinary drummer at a young age. This reissue is pressed on limited marble vinyl.
