Of all of Ennio Morricone’s contributions to Henri Verneuil films, “Le Clan des Siciliens” undoubtedly remains his most successful and fiercely beautiful. A luminous and dense score that embodies the total class of this incredible Italian maestro. A great believer in learned compositions and unusual orchestrations, Morricone delivers here a series of unforgettable themes built upon musical architectures and pitch-perfect structures. The track Tema Italiano, which opens and irrigates the album with its solar presence clearly adheres to nostalgic atmospheres and instantly releases a fascinating dramatic tension and unspoken sadness.
A slow and sublime sensorial drift which lights up a few Jew’s harp notes, the echoes of a distant whistling, ragged guitar riffs and the powerful currents of moving chords. We freely allow ourselves to get carried away, without resistance, to be suddenly startled by the terrestrial assaults of Tema Per Le Goff, an epic, sonic track which explodes and frees the total fury held within these crazy pieces. We ask ourselves what other score could have crystallised the image of the sacred Delo/Gabin/Ventura trio as perfectly. A great record from a great composer. An endless masterpiece.
