Mariachi: The Sounds of Hysteria & Headache
US-0365
- Released: June 10, 2008
The Mexican Mariachi has “too much”. Too much Corazon, too much emotional eruption, too much grief and suffering, and too much happiness. In short: too much lavishness of the human soul, presented in a musical style whose artificiality can only be surpassed by folkloristic music. Although strict music ethnologists see the Mariachi as not “authentic” but as folk music for tourists in Mexico, this musical parasite based on inherited traditions conquers the fields of popular music.
“Mariachi – The sound of Hysteria and Heartache” documents the whole spectrum of its infiltration. Mariachi trumpets exult in Techno and Hip-Hop as well as in ballads of popular music go-getters, the typical violins yowl no less in House than they do in Calexico’s desert sound. This compilation brings together the happily joyful and the depressingly sad. The main thing is the heart gets deeply touched!"
