There’s been a hole in the fabric of the film/music world for many, many, many years: late-great director Hal Ashby’s bizarre, romantic masterpiece Harold and Maude was blessed with a Cat Steven’s soundtrack (one that featured two songs written specifically for the film) that never truly saw the light of day. Yes, “Don’t Be Shy” and “If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out” were released on the Footsteps in the Dark compilation in ‘84, but besides that the original sound track of the film has gone unreleased.
Until now.
Cameron Crowe (yes, that Cameron Crowe) has a little company called Vinyl Films and they’ve put together one of the better LP packages we’ve ever seen. Compiling the entire soundtrack, plus the most extensive interviews about the film, well, ever, Crowe has put together a fantastic package for this never-before released gem. It’s got posters, booklets, a limited edition 7-inch, and, best of all, a multi-colored record. And you can only get it from Light In The Attic.
Pick it up, there’s only 2500 copies, and when they’re gone … they’re gone.
The full details after the jump.

It’s time to put an end to the PROFIT-TAKING of the various sellers of this LP from $199 up…..please make a reissue for all those unfortunates (such as myself) WHO HAD NO CLUE THIS GREAT LP WAS EVEN OUT THERE UNTIL IT WAS GONE!!!
Bruce
This has been my emotional go-to movie since… forever. Glad this LP was made…. sad that I missed out. Back to my pieced together playlist….
Please let me know when this becomes available and at hopefully at a resonable price!
Hi, I am also hoping for a reissue of the vinyl at some point in the future…………….
Yes, I agree.
Cameron Crowe please rerelease this. So many people miss out on this because we where unaware, despite that we are all great fans of
Harold and Maude and or Cat Stevens.
Somehow, a few greedy animals bought allot of these copies only to profit by selling them on ebay and the like,
at 4 to 5 times what they originally sold for. How’d this happen??
Please rerelease this, Or Make some slight changes so that the ones who got ripped off don’t feel cheated. Please Do A Rerelease.

Again, just to keep the request active as time goes by, PLEASE re-release this record. I saw it on the shelf at Amoeba in San Francisco around the time it came out, had no idea of its limited status, and thought “O man, I don’t have the $30 or a card on me. Shit. Better come back tomorrow.” It wasn’t in stock the next day, or after, but I didn’t think to look into it online until much later– the anguish went deep. PLEASE re-release this record!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE re release this!
why not offer this on a CD?
i purchased a copy awhile ago and paid $35 on EBay, I adore the film. now i see the price is $199.00.
The film is wonderful as is the music. Terrible that the price has gone sky high. Maude wouldn’t agree to this.
Any plans for a re-release – aw, c’mon, PLEASE!
I TOO, WOULD LOVE THIS ALBUM !!JUDGING FROM ALL THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS…..CAN YOU SEE HOW MUCH MORE MONEY YOU COULD MAKE IF YOU RE-RELEASE THIS EXCELLENT ALBUM? I EVEN GOT MY YOUNG BEST FRIEND INTERESTED AND SHE WANTS IT TOO. ANXIOUSLY AWAITING!

Fine weblog,have a good day
I saw this movie for the first time when I was 8. I loved the music and wanted the soundtrack ever since then, that was 25 years ago. I couldn’t afford the $100plus prices I’d seen on ebay. I hope I get a copy if its ever re-released.
I just happened to see this on the shelf in Amoeba Records in Berkeley, CA. Got it for about $30 I think. Man did I luck out!
Love the blog, I love Original Movie Posters :D
